An Intimate Winter Civil Wedding at the Capitole of Toulouse

Toulouse, France

A January ceremony in the Salle des Illustres, surrounded by the people who matter most

January weddings in Toulouse have something special. The air is crisp, the city is quieter after the holidays, and when the sun comes out, the light is absolutely beautiful.

This intimate civil wedding at the Capitole of Toulouse was exactly that. A small group of close family and friends gathered in front of the Capitole before being welcomed inside for the ceremony in the stunning Salle des Illustres.

I love photographing weddings at the Capitole. The rhythm of the day almost feels like a dance. Couples arrive one after another, the ushers guide everyone with perfect timing, and before you know it, you’re walking through those incredible halls towards the ceremony.

A Winter Morning at the Capitole

We met outside the Capitole, right in the heart of Toulouse. The square was calm, the winter sun lighting up the pink bricks of the building.

Civil weddings at the Capitole always have their own rhythm. Throughout the day, couples arrive one after another, each ceremony flowing seamlessly into the next. The ushers guide everyone with perfect timing, and before you know it, it’s your turn to walk inside.

There’s something almost choreographed about it, like a quiet dance unfolding through the halls of the Capitole.

Soon enough, we were invited inside and guided upstairs toward the Salle des Illustres, where the ceremony would take place.

Ceremony in the Salle des Illustres

The Salle des Illustres is one of the most breathtaking rooms in the Capitole. High ceilings, historic paintings, golden details. It’s impossible not to pause for a second when you walk in.

The ceremony itself was simple and heartfelt. With only a small group of loved ones present, every glance, every smile, every word seemed to carry even more meaning.

And just like that, they were married.

From the Salle des Illustres to the Courtyard

As soon as the ceremony ended, we stepped out of the Salle des Illustres and made our way downstairs toward the courtyard.

That walk always feels special. The official part is over, the smiles are wider, the shoulders more relaxed.

Outside, family and friends were waiting. Hugs, congratulations, laughter echoing against the pink brick walls of the Capitole. The kind of spontaneous joy that can’t be staged.

Those minutes right after a civil ceremony are always my favourite. The formalities are done, the emotions are still right there on the surface, and everything feels beautifully real.

Courtyard Celebrations

Once outside, we gathered everyone in the courtyard of the Capitole for group photos.

With such an intimate wedding, these moments felt easy and joyful. No long lists, just the people who truly mattered. Hugs turned into laughter, congratulations blended with happy tears, and the winter sun wrapped everything in a soft glow.

We took the classic group portraits, a few smaller family combinations, and of course, there was a bouquet toss. Quick, spontaneous, and full of cheers echoing against the pink brick walls.

Winter weddings in Toulouse have a rhythm of their own, and this one ended the way it began: simple, warm, and full of meaning.
