Love Before the City Wakes

Florence has a way of making everything feel important. But the real secret? Waking up before everyone else.

For L and M’s engagement session, we did exactly that. Alarm clocks went off when most people were still asleep, and somehow, that made the city feel like it belonged only to us.

We started at Piazzale Michelangelo, while Florence was still stretching into the day.

No buses. No tour groups. Just quiet air and that soft, diffused light that only exists in the early morning.

From up there, the city feels calm. The Duomo rising slowly into the light. Rooftops still holding the cool of the night. It’s the kind of silence you don’t often associate with Florence.

They stood close, hands in pockets, shoulders brushing. No rush. No pressure. Just walking and talking like they would on any other day. Except this time, the view was unreal.

That’s the thing about early morning sessions in Florence. They feel intimate. Private. Almost secret.

Wandering Through a Sleeping City

From Piazzale Michelangelo, we made our way down into the heart of the city.

We passed the Duomo, the Uffizi, Piazza della Signoria… places that, a few hours later, would be full of movement and noise. But at that hour, they were still.

We crossed Ponte Vecchio while the city was barely awake. No crowds pushing past. No background chaos. Just the sound of footsteps and distant shutters opening.

It felt surreal in the simplest way.

Florence is always beautiful. But when it’s quiet, it becomes something else entirely.

And in that stillness, it was just them. Leaning into each other for warmth.

When the City Finally Wakes

By the time we reached Santa Croce, the city was beginning to shift.

A few more people. A little more movement. The first signs that Florence was waking up.

But by then, it didn’t matter.

We had already had our moment.

Sessions like this aren’t about dramatic poses or perfect choreography. They’re about walking through a place that means something and letting it become part of your story.

A simple morning walk turned into a memory.

And the best part? It all happened before most of the city even knew we were there.
