A Rustic-Chic Countryside Wedding in Aubrac, France

AUBRAC, France

Windy Fields & Wild Vows

This wedding was supposed to be the perfect end-of-summer celebration in Aubrac.

Thirty degrees. Golden light. Warm countryside vibes.

Instead, a wave of cold air arrived from nowhere and decided to stay for a few days.

The temperature dropped from thirty, the wind kept blowing nonstop. It wasn’t sudden or dramatic. It was just… there.

And honestly? It made the day unforgettable.

Getting Ready (Same House, Different Floors)

They both got ready in the same house. Just on different floors.

Which means at any moment someone could have accidentally run into the other on the stairs. The tension was real.

Upstairs, she was getting ready with her people.

Downstairs, he was buttoning his jacket and pretending not to think too much.

The house was buzzing, but quietly. Not the warm late-summer morning everyone had imagined. But very Aubrac.

Sainte-Marie Church, Standing Solid

The ceremony took place at Sainte-Marie Church, a Romanesque church that feels deeply rooted in the Auvergne landscape.

Thick stone walls. Simple lines. A place that has stood there long enough to not care about trends, weather, or expectations.

Inside, everything slowed down.

The wind stayed outside. The ceremony felt grounded, intimate, and real. One of those moments where you forget about logistics and just stay present.

When they walked back out as newlyweds, the wind was still there, gently reminding everyone where we were.

Very Aubrac. Very fitting.

Wind, Fields & an Old Citroën

Now, let’s talk about the couple photo session in the field.

They drove out with an old Citroën that looked like it belonged exactly there. Rustic countryside meets slightly rebellious French charm. The wind? Still aggressive.

Hair everywhere. The dress was moving like it had its own personality. Jackets being held down mid-laugh.

But here’s the thing. Wind brings life into photos. Nothing was static. Nothing was stiff. Everything had movement. Energy. A bit of chaos in the best way.

They leaned into it instead of fighting it. And that’s when magic actually happens. Sometimes perfect conditions are boring. This was not.

Buron des Bouals: Aligot, Wind & Mountain Energy

The reception took place at Buron des Bouals, high up in Aubrac, surrounded by open land and that wild mountain atmosphere.

If you’ve never been to a buron, think thick stone walls, low ceilings, and a place that has survived centuries of wind without ever needing decoration to impress. Inside, it was warm. Outside, the wind was still doing whatever it wanted.

Then came the entrance into the dinner room.

Not subtle. Not composed. Loud and chaotic in the best way. Clapping, shouting, people already dancing before even reaching their seats. It felt less like a formal reception and more like a mountain party that had been waiting to start all day.

And that set the tone.

Dinner was pure Aubrac: aligot and sausage. No trendy plating, no unnecessary complications. Just generous, comforting food. For those who don’t know, aligot is mashed potatoes turned into elastic cheese theatre. You don’t serve it quietly. You lift it, stretch it, show it off.

And yes, there was the ritual. The big pot. The dramatic cheese pull. Everyone watching as it stretched higher and higher.

Dinner flowed, but it never stayed calm for long. Games interrupted the courses. Speeches broke out mid-bite. Someone would stand up, everyone would cheer, someone else would pretend not to cry. It was lively, unpredictable, and completely unpolished in the best way.

And then, finally, cake.

And Then the Dance Floor Happened

By the time the dance floor opened, nobody cared about the temperature anymore. Layers came off. Shoes were abandoned. The wind was officially irrelevant. It’s always interesting how a day that starts with “oh no, the weather” ends with “this is the best night ever.”

The energy shifted from slightly frozen countryside elegance to full celebration mode. Laughter. Proper dancing. The kind where you know tomorrow everyone will feel it.

It wasn’t the warm 30-degree end-of-summer wedding they had planned. It was colder. Wilder. Windier. And somehow, it fit perfectly.

Because weddings aren’t about perfect forecasts. They’re about people showing up. Adjusting. Laughing when the wind ruins your hairstyle. Holding onto each other when the temperature drops.

And Aubrac delivered exactly that. Raw. Honest. Unfiltered.

Does this feel like your kind of day?
